Scalextric Slot Cars due Mid April 2009
Available new in the U.S. from Hornby Hobbies are Limited two new Scalextric slot car products: the Ferrari 250 GTO, 1962 part number C2970 and the Street Cars Slot Car Track Set part number C1238T.
The Scalextric Ferrari 250 GTO (also known as the Berlineta) is Hornby Hobbies version of a model that other slot car manufacturers, such as Fly Car Model, but my understanding is that there are slight differences in the molding, especially in the front dam area and other minor specifics. This model was originally advertised in the U.S. as digital plug ready, but is strictly an analog slot car.
The Scalextric Street Cars set contains two super-resistant body Porsche 997 slot cars, one silver and one orange, that are also digital plug ready. The cars are made for high-impact racing, which is great for kids who love to crash the cars or who run them off the track accidently. The track itself is of an extended figure 8 design broken down into 15 feet of total track pieces. When assembled it is 6 feet long and 3 feet wide. The track is designed for ages 5 and older.
